Recovery Focus is a weekly group for recovering addicts and alcoholics who are seeking to create highly skilled peer support networks and increased self awareness. Recovery Focus uses evidence based therapeutic techniques, honours the traditions of 12 step programs and leverages the eclectic strength of SMART recovery concepts. As a companion therapy to participation in a 12 step program(s), Recovery Focus incorporates the strength of group fellowship with the individual support of one on one counselling. The Recovery Focus program runs for 3 hours once per week in six week ‘terms’ with strategically prescribed individual therapy sessions at key points during each term. Participants can participate for a single six week term or commit to ongoing support as each progressive term will introduce new content and reinforce recovery fundamentals. Recovery Focus is an authentic, structured and interactive forum where participants are encouraged to consider new concepts and recovery tools, share insight, process experience, practise interpersonal communication and gain support in their recovery journey. In order to foster a safe and intimate environment Recovery Focus is a ‘closed’ group with small numbers that limits the introduction of new participants to the commencement of each six week term. Recovery Focus is a program committed to innovation and is facilitated by a multidisciplinary recovery team that includes a registered psychologist, a registered clinical psychologist and an accredited addictions recovery coach. This approach to staffing ensures that the program has a balance of evidence based best practise for recovery with real world application and empathy. Participants will benefit from multiple perspectives on the recovery process delivered with professional clarity. The program’s use of registered psychologists may allow eligible participants with an appropriate referral access to standard Medicare rebates for portions of the program and individual sessions. Participants of Recovery Focus are required to commit to a desire to remain abstinent from substances or processes of addiction and enabling behaviours whilst participating in the program.
